Fool for Singing by Alejandro N. Marrero 10/11/2020

She says I’m in trouble but she’s never tried to let me in
She calls me endearing phrases so subtle as her words make me spin
For the life of me I can never get her off my mind
She’s stolen every word from me even though they once were mine

I’m a fool for singing
Every time I do I think it’s true
Still, I keep on singing it’s not for me but for every you
So keep on dancing to every single rhyme
Hate myself for giving her more chances
For spending everyone’s dimes
Yet, she’ll never take my songs away for these beats are mine

She says she’s listening now but she won’t let me truly win
Calls me from the shores thinking I’ll sink from thoughts she places within
For the life of me I can’t say no to her but I’m doing just fine
It isn’t fair now as I’m learning not to trust her and letting her be a past from way behind

I’m a fool for singing
Every time I do I think it’s true
Still, we keep on singing it’s not for me but for every you
So keep on dancing to every single rhyme
Raise your hands with mine
For giving ourselves more chances
For dancing all the time
No one can take our songs away for these beats are our rhymes

She says she loves me now but I think it’s all just to come to our next show
She texts me constantly wondering why I let her go
Now to the right of me in the evenings another holds my name
It’s not that girl I pined for earlier but she holds my heart the same

I’m glad I kept singing
For making my own tunes
For giving myself chances
For finding my own truths
Let’s keep on singing it’s not for me but for every you
Now keep on dancing to every single rhyme
It’s now time,

Now raise your hands up to dance with mine
For giving ourselves all the chances
For dancing all the time
No one can take our songs away for these lives and beats are our rhymes
